Laura McKenzie began her dance training as a young child in Virginia Beach. She was accepted into the dance program at the Old Donation Center where she attended throughout her elementary and middle school years. Laura was accepted to the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Salem High School as a Dance major. In addition to her core academic classes, Laura had daily instruction in various Dance Styles, Anatomy, Dance History, Choreography, and Nutrition. She also had the opportunity to attend master classes with companies such as Martha Graham, Alvin Ailey, The Royal Ballet, and The Richmond Ballet. Laura participated in well over 10 dance showcases and behind the scenes in many theater productions. She graduated with an Advanced Studies Diploma, and special recognition for her completed training at the Academy. Following high school, Laura performed in “The Magic of Krendl and Company” as a dancer and lead assistant. She performed in their main stage show and their local tour.

Mrs. McKenzie attended Old Dominion University where she pursued her Bachelors Degree in Dance Performance and performed in the University Dance Theater and Student Choreography Showcase. During her freshman year she accepted an apprenticeship with the Owner/Artistic Director of rpm dance, Renee Perry Mitchell. Laura credits Mrs. Mitchell for training and mentoring her to become the teacher she is today. Laura found her passion in teaching Jazz and Lyrical, but she also has experience in Hip Hop, Modern, and Ballet.

Her husband’s career moved them to Northern Virginia for five years where she continued her passion to develop a small children’s dance program at a fitness facility. Laura has always considered Hampton Roads “home”, and was thrilled at the opportunity to reconnect with her family, friends, and studio when she returned. If she isn’t teaching or choreographing, Laura is spending time in Virginia Beach with her husband, Zach, and their two beautiful children, Mikayla and Jackson.
